While the UAE may be in the midst of the scorching summer heat, heavy rainfall is expected across the country this week.

Announced by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the UAE can expect a week of heavy rain, cloudy conditions and strong winds for the foreseeable.

From August 6 to August 8, 2024, the NCM has predicted moderate to heavy rain in certain parts of the UAE.

Temperatures are expected to drop by approximately 3°C and Al Ain is anticipated to experience the heaviest rainfall over the next few days. As seen on Monday, torrential downpours and hail have already been reported coming from Dubai-Al Ain road.

Abu Dhabi is also expected to bear a rainstorm, with the NCM issuing a yellow weather warning for the capital city. The AD Police Headquarters Twitter account also sent out an urgent message alerting “motorists to exercise caution due to the rainy weather” and abide by the changing speed limits.

While UAE summers are usually marked with high heat and sunny conditions, seasonal rain is not unexpected due to surrounding countries’ low-pressure monsoon seasons.

In late April 2024, the GCC nation weathered the heaviest rainfall of its lifetime with reported precipitation of 254mm. Sending into effect work-from-home orders for private and public sector employees, no announcement has been made thus far for this week’s rainfall.
