The Arab world witnessed another fashion moment with Sheikha Moza bint Nasser as she graced the steps of the Qatar Foundation (QF) Convocation Ceremony with the Vice Chairperson and CEO of QF, her daughter Sheikha Hind bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Celebrating the ceremony of fresh graduates to take on the next step in life, Sheikha Moza chose to elevate her fashion sense with an archival and vintage haute couture suit-dress by Jean Paul Gaultier.
And in case you’re not familiar, Sheikha Moza has a history of being a true fashion icon over the years, and this is yet another ensemble kept for the books.
an all-vintage look
Originally from the SS01 collection, Sheikha Moza looked radiant and regal in the full-black ensemble by the French fashion house.
Completing the look, she was adorned in a vintage Cartier Egyptian Scarab necklace in turquoise with precious diamonds and emeralds. It was first created in 2008, with its last appearance in 2019 Tokyo during Cartier’s “Crystal of Time” exhibition. But, now we know it’s safe in the Qatari royal’s collection of vintage fashion and accessories.
To celebrate this occasion, Sheikha Moza posted a sweet message to all graduates on Instagram bidding adieu and a bright future ahead.
“This gathering is not a goodbye; rather, it is the beginning of a new phase,” she declared. “As we have helped create new futures for you, now it is your responsibility to create new futures for the generations who follow in your footsteps.
“Tomorrow is yours. Do not let it take you by surprise, but go out and meet it. Congratulations to the class of 2024. I wish you every success.”
a vintage fashion admirer
Time and time again, Sheikha Moza showcases her love for fashion. The Qatari royal is known to turn heads with her impeccable style, and her choice of a vintage pink Chanel haute couture suit was no exception. She dazzled in the suit from the spring 1996 haute couture collection while meeting with Mr. Darren Walker, director of the Ford Foundation in September last year. And this isn’t the first she’s amazed us with a timeless piece.
The Sheikha, the archived fashion fan that she is, attended the royal matrimony of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II and Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa Al-Hussein in June 2023, wearing a Valentino coat from the luxury house’s autumn 1989 couture collection.
Despite her packed schedule all year-round, she always manages to make a statement with a standout piece, capturing attention wherever she goes.
