Flying taxis are set to become a reality in Dubai by 2026. Yes, you read that right.
By 2026, flying taxis will be operational in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said. Moreover, Dubai is going to be the first city in the world to have a vertiport network and commercial electric aerial taxi service.

An agreement to start an aerial taxi service in Dubai by 2026 was established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, as well as Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
The project is a component of RTA’s upcoming mobility initiatives, which will offer transportation options to tourists and residents of Dubai.
The first flying taxi to launch in two years’ time will be the Joby Aviation S4, which will safely and securely carry four passengers in addition to the pilot. With its six propellers and four battery packs, it can travel up to 161 kilometres at its highest speed. Compared to helicopters, the airborne taxi will produce less noise at its maximum speed of 321 km/h.

“What we are witnessing today is the latest milestone in our efforts to enhance the sector’s global leadership and competitiveness,” explained, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Board of Directors of General Civil Aviation Authority.
With the start of the ground-breaking air taxi project, the UAE’s air transport industry has advanced on a regional and international scale.
In 2026, the initial phase of the aerial taxi service will be available near Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah. Additionally, a flight from Dubai Airport to Palm Jumeirah will potentially travel for 10 minutes, as opposed to 45 minutes by car.\
Soon on-ground traffic could be a thing of the past…
