Y2K is nothing new in fashion (one scroll through TikTok is sure to bring about rhinestones, low rise denim, and butterfly sandals), but beauty has been slower to take hold.
But at Givenchy’s SS23 show in Paris over the weekend, makeup director Lucia Pieroni pulled out some of the greatest early 2000s beauty signatures and gave them a modern edge: chunky lashes caked with mascara, a subtle shimmer on the eye and matte, powdered skin (albeit, skin that still looks natural and fresh). Pieroni finished the look with minimal cheek colour and a slick of lip gloss for a hydrated finish.
If you’re chasing an easy look for party season, this is pretty close to perfect.
Legendary stylist Duffy was the artist behind the hair look: a pouf style that 99% of us wore clubbing in the early ‘aughts. The look was made modern though with natural movement, soft flyaways and medium shine. But the pulled-back front section itself was slicked with gel for good measure.
Clean and simple, consider it great inspo for what’s sure to be another wet summer here in Australia.
