“Quite often, I just feel like screaming,” Victoria Beckham says when fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski asks her how she manages her lofty goals and successes.

“I’m not going to lie. I’m very lucky that I have a great support system around me, but it is a juggling act when you’ve got a lot of children and you’re bust at work and you’ve got a husband,” she says, as part of an interview for Lubomirski’s YouTube channel.

With a net worth estimated at $450 million, 46-year-old Beckham has come a really long way since her humble upbringing in Essex, London.

“I always say dream big. And then dream even bigger,” she tells Lubomirski – who I must say has the most gentle and kind interview tone. “You’ve got to work really, really hard, stay focused and really not pay any attention to any negativity. I’m a very positive person, the glass is always half full.”

It sounds easier said than done but Beckham points out the odds were often stacked against her.

“I’ve always had to work hard, I was never the favourite, never the most academic,” she admits. “When I went to theatre school and wanted to be a dancer and a singer, I was never the best. I always had to work really, really hard. I don’t know what it was that made me keep fighting. But I did.”

“I think becoming successful isn’t the most challenging [part], it’s maintaining that success,” she adds.

But it was one question that made the designer and ex-Spice Girl seem a tad more relatable. In 2020, how do you raise boys to be good men?

“You start with these little babies, and it’s your responsibility to make sure that you are helping to bring up really good people,” Beckham says. “I try to be the best mum, I try to be the best wife, I try to be the best professional… I mean, I’m trying.”

“I feel really proud our boys because they are turning out to be really good men. They work really hard, they’re kind kids and I think that being kind is key. I think everybody should just be kind. There’s so many horrible things going on in the world. With regards to [raising] boys, they always have to have respect for themselves, for others, for girls. And our boys have always had the utmost respect for everybody.”
