For Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2022 runway show, Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli took over the Carreau du Temple, a Parisian marketplace lined with cafès and restaurants. The show was, he explained, a “celebration of life”, and Parisian locals mingled with showgoers in a joy-filled display that spilled onto the streets. As for the collection itself (aptly titled ‘Valentino Rendez-Vous’) it married the Maison’s couture-level attention to detail with contemporary daywear. Silk garments were finished with intricate prints, sumptuous embellished evening coats were effortlessly slung over denim jeans, dresses were characterised by sartorial detailing or hand-embellished with sequins. Among Spring/Summer 2022’s highlights were the influx of drool-worthy Valentino Garavani accessories. Models strutted down the runway in chunky gold chain Valentino Garavani necklaces, lace-up Valentino Garavani sandals, lug-soled Valentino Garavani leather boots, and delicate Valentino Garavani VLogo signature earrings. But the biggest highlight came in the form of a brand new handbag silhouette, unveiled in the opening look and shown in various iterations throughout the collection. The Valentino Garavani One Stud handbag takes one of the brand’s most enduring signatures—the stud—and modernises it by placing a 4×4-inch stud with a magnet closure at the centre of a leather handbag. A genderless design intended to be worn from day to night, the Valentino Garavani One Stud is finished with leather and strung on the brand’s signature petit chain.
The Valentino Garavani One Stud caused an immediate buzz when it debuted in Paris last October, and the hype only grew when Valentino muse and budding fashion icon Zendaya wore the bag in the brand’s latest campaign. Available in multiple shades, from classic black and ivory to punchy shades of green and yellow, and shapes, from adorable micro minis to wear-everywhere oversized totes, the Valentino Garavani One Stud is destined to be the fashion industry’s new must-have accessory.
