Armie Hammer shocked the world when in February 2020, he was accused of cheating, sexual assault and perhaps more disturbingly, cannibalism. The actor is currently the subject of an LAPD investigation from claims of abuse and while the Hammer’s former wife Elizabeth Chambers has spoken out about the scandal, his close Call Me By Your Name co-star Timothée Chalamet has remained notoriously silent.

The young actor – who is slated to appear in Dune and The French Dispatch in 2021 – appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine this week. In an accompanying interview he was asked about the Armie Hammer scandal. Expectedly his response was extremely mature, but not exactly the buzzy gossip the outlet was after.

“I totally get why you’re asking that,” he told the publication. “But it’s a question worthy of a larger conversation, and I don’t want to give you a partial response.”

It begs the question as to whether Chalamet will ever address the controversy. Both stars were catapulted to fame after the release of the award-winning film and forged a friendship in the process.

In June it was reported by Vanity Fair that Hammer reached out to his estranged wife to assist in checking himself into a treatment centre. The last sightings of the actor placed him at a Florida facility, outside of Orlando.

“Everyone looks at Armie thinking that he’s had some sort of privileged life—and that must mean there were no problems in his youth and everything was peachy keen,” said a close friend told the outlet. “But that’s not necessarily the way things go. Just because you come from an upbringing where financial resources are plentiful doesn’t mean life isn’t without problems.”

In other Chalamet news, the Beautiful Boy star revealed a first look at the 2023 prequel of Willy Wonka. See the images, here (you’re welcome).
