January 11, 2020: On Monday, the internet woke up to a plethora of tweets alleging that Armie Hammer is a cannibal—proving that even though it’s now 2021, we still can’t sleep soundly without waking up to chaos.

The tweets were initially shared by a Twitter user with the handle @tevinauguste, and they’ve since gone viral on the social media platform. As seen in screenshots and screen recordings on the user’s social media page, the messages appear to be from the 34-year-old actor’s Instagram handle (@armiehammer).

The sex and cannibalism-themed conversation is too disturbing to post directly, but we’ll share a few of them. The actor allegedly DMed a victim, “I need your blood. I crave it.” On another occasion, he said, “I am 100 percent a cannibal.” In a third message chain, the sender claims to have eaten a live animal before.

For the record, at the time of publishing (2 p.m. EST), it’s unclear whether the Instagram messages are real or fake. Many social media speculate they’re fake, and Hammer has yet to put out a public statement addressing the matter, yet the internet is still hard at work on the case.

This isn’t the first time Hammer’s made headlines for engaging in sexual content on social media. In 2017, Twitter users noticed him “like” posts about bondage and BDSM.

In July of 2020, Hammer and his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers announced their divorce in a joint statement shared on Instagram. Their split appeared to be amicable. Chambers hasn’t addressed Hammer’s allegations either.

“Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners, and then parents,” their statement read. “It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.”

The statement continues, “As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.”
