When you are a Brazilian supermodel, it would seem tanning comes naturally to you. But, even the most radiant, Amazonian Supers need a little help from time to time, particularly when it’s Fashion Week.

As Victoria’s Secret model and all-round glowing goddess, Alessandra Ambrosio, strutted down the Julien MacDonald runway, it wasn’t just the strategically placed cobalt sequins that left us in awe (although they too sparked some serious jaw-off-the-floor action), it was her skin: rich, tawny and positively glowing. And the man responsible for the tan? None other than Australia’s own Michael Brown, who with mitt and mist in hand (St. Tropez, naturally) worked his sparkling magic.

Much like MacDonald’s aesthetic – dazzling, desirable, sexy, slinky – the tan was to be bold, beautiful and deeply sumptuous. The brief? “Amazonian Goddess: rich in colour and metallic in finish to give an edgy modern finish,” notes Brown. But with any tanning triumph, it all comes down to technique.

“Every show wanted glow glow glow…Whether it was little to no colour, it was about the ‘buffing’ technique with a tan mitt to recreate realistic colour and glow.”

Here, the man of the tan shares the exact how to he used on Ambrosio’s long, lithe limbs backstage. Now (try) buff your way to Alessandra perfection.

HOW TO

1. Apply 1 coat of St. Tropez Classic Mist to the body, then with the tan mitt, buff in.
2. Massage in St. Tropez Instant Tan Finishing Gloss to lift colour and glow.
3. Using St. Tropez Instant Tan Wash Off Lotion in Medium to Dark, apply with tan mitt to the sides of the legs and body for a sculpted effect.
4. At the final moment, dab St. Tropez Instant Tan Finishing Gloss onto highlight points exposed to light: collar bones, shoulders, shins etc.
