Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are notoriously private about their relationship. Throughout their almost five year relationship, the singer and her actor beau have only been spotted together on a handful of occasions, and refuse to comment on their romance – even as rumours abound that they did in fact already get engaged and maybe even tie the knot in secret.

But the tight-lipped pair still find ways to support each other publicly, even if it’s in the subtlest of ways – which Swift recently demonstrated as news broke of Alwyn’s casting in the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney‘s 2017 novel Conversations With Friends. The series, which will stream on Hulu, comes off the back of the wildly popular Normal People, which was also originally a novel penned by Rooney.

Alwyn posted the casting to his Instagram page, writing, “Conversations With Friends is one of my favourite books of the last few years. I’m so grateful and excited to be invited onboard, and to get to work with this amazingly talented group of people.” The group he would be referring to is his crop of young co-stars, including American Honey star Sasha Lane as Bobbi and Girls alum Jemima Kirke as Melissa. Production is set to begin in Ireland later this year, but controversially to some fans, most of the cast isn’t Irish – aside from newcomer Alison Oliver, who plays Frances.

Swift, however, is said to be thrilled for her British boyfriend, who has previously made waves in the industry for his performances in The Favourite and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. While the evermore singer stayed true to form by not commenting publicly on Alwyn’s new role, she showed her support by liking his Instagram post announcing the role.

And yes, okay, it could be argued that it’s hardly a comment, but Swift – who famously doesn’t follow anyone on social media – deliberately took the time to go to Alwyn’s page and slyly demonstrate her feelings on the matter.

Now what will she make of those racy scenes we’re sure to see when the series premieres in 2022?
