Ask any of your good girlfriends what they thought after streaming Normal People on Stan and the general consensus is they were completely consumed by it – but didn’t like the non-ending.

We had spent many hours invested in the lusty, angsty teenage-come-young-adult love affair. It had brought up all kinds of nostalgic memories of our first great loves. It had reminded us of how much one can pine and long for another. It reminded us of the earth-shattering feeling of heartbreak, of missed moments, of miscommunicated feelings. We went through it all – only for Connell to move to New York and leave Marianne – the love of his damn life – in Dublin.

But, we have some good news today. Sally Rooney’s television adaptation of her New York Times bestseller will return for two more episodes on June 26! Yes, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal will reprise their roles as Marianne and Connell (with his chain), respectively, as part of Comic Relief Ireland.

“There’s a beautiful piece called Normal Older People, which is imagining what would have happened to Marianne and Connell 40 years from now,” Comic Relief co-founder, Richard Curtis, told RTÉ Radio 1. “I promise you, these are two very special bits.”

“It’s so much better than anything we’ve ever made,” he added. “I mean I can’t even say [everything] about it because there’s a guest star in it. But it’s really, really beautiful. One of the things about Comic Relief is it just gives opportunities for things to happen that would never happen. I can’t imagine any context in which they would have allowed this little sort of extra special guest into the world of Normal People.”

While you wait with bated breath – and prepare yourselves to go through the throes of every emotion once more – we’ll work on working out how Australians can watch the extra episodes. They currently will only be available to Irish viewers. Lucky for you, we’re internet sleuths.
