For Rachel Gilbert’s pre-fall 2024 outing, a floor-length white gown takes centre stage. Styled with black opera gloves and artfully gathered at the side of the waist, it’s reminiscent of the now-famous Schiaparelli gown Taylor Swift wore to the 2024 Grammy Awards in February.
Elsewhere, silver sequins and pearls are hand-stitched onto a silver midi in a pattern which sort of resembles craters on the moon’s surface. The Camden dress—a popular midi hand-stitched with floral applique from seasons past—gets an upgrade with silver stars. Delicate strap details offer new necklines. A black mini carries a celestial motif. Yes, this season—inspired by the constellations of a starry evening, and even if only for a temporary reprieve—Rachel Gilbert hits differently.
“I was inspired by the night sky, the sun, the moon and the stars,” says founder and creative director Rachel Gilbert. “It felt harmonious with eveningwear, setting the scene for often celebrating in the moments after dark.”
While the designer will always have our hearts when it comes to occasion wear, key pieces from the new season don’t necessarily look like the style cues we know Gilbert for.
