If the first four days of November have been any indication, party season has well and truly arrived. It’s fitting of course that Fashion Laureate nominee Rachel Gilbert be at the forefront of event dressing with the timely launch of Resort 2023. With restrictions a thing of the past, this spangly new collection introduces an air of maximalism – something we missed for so long – with a bold, energising colour palette and intricate detailing. Yes, art takes a new wearable form.
To ring in the festive season, Gilbert has collaborated with Violet Grace Atkinson, a purveyor of cool content creation and one with a modern lens on styling, to capture this very essence in the brand’s Resort 2023 campaign.
“Freedom, strength and femininity were the key pillars I drew from when creating the Rachel Gilbert Resort 2023 campaign,” Atkinson says. “During any campaign conception process, I take the most inspiration from the pieces themselves: texture, cut, drape and flow. How the pieces make you feel.”
Dressed in vibrant beaded minis, feathered cocktail pieces and dramatic graphic gowns, the collaborative duo worked to blend the past and future, boasting familiar reworked silhouettes and showcasing the craftsmanship and integrity that goes into each piece.
Atkinson continues, “From here I consider: how would a girl wearing it move? Movement is a huge component of my work and I think these pieces speak of a powerful feminine energy that is channelled through the RG woman’s movement, posture and how she holds herself.
“I think we are sick to death of hearing about life in a post-C world, so I don’t propose to venture into that side of things. But ultimately, I believe the creative direction of this campaign sought to be a celebration of the strong woman,” she explained. “Being the life of the party. Having opinions. Dancing. Living life to the fullest. And just being free. It was such a pleasure to create.”
