The marquees lining Bryant Park are no longer the telling sign that the island of Manhattan is once again preparing to host designers, fashion editors, buyers and style savants for the upcoming iteration of New York Fashion Week. Indeed, that role has been passed onto the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), with the industry board today unveiling the exhaustive six-day schedule for the Fall/Winter 2024 season of NYFW.
The bustling metropolis is putting its reputation as the city that never sleeps to good use, given that fashion never rests either. And while we’ve all been idle since the September shows, emerging and established talents on both sides of the pond have been busily stitching, sewing and fretting in their ateliers ahead of the collection presentations early next month.
Taking place across New York’s boroughs from February 9 – 14, a star-spangled melange of domestic American talents and notable international imports will soon take to the runway to present their interpretations of what New York women will eye with covetous zeal for the cooler months.
Commencing the proceedings will be Peter Do, unveiling his sophomore collection for Helmut Lang at midday on February 9. We here at the GRAZIA office have already set our ‘OOO’ for the presentations of downtown darlings Khaite and Proenza Schouler on February 10.
While the middle of the week is sardined with NYFW mainstays, including Coach, Michael Kors and Tory Burch, it’s the surprising additions to the schedule that have piqued the interest of fashion fanatics. Namely, Sandy Liang who returns to the official events after showing off-schedule last season, and French designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The latter departed from his role as creative director for Ann Demeulemeester after one stellar season.
Speaking of departures, Australian wunderkind Dion Lee has exited stage right. There’s no information on where the corset colossal will appear next. Or, if he’s planning a guerrilla-style takeover of the schedule from an abandoned Brooklyn warehouse. Ralph Lauren is also off for this season.
A Valentine’s Day treat comes in the form of Thom Browne closing out the week. Though the master tailor celebrated the occasion last year by gifting a bouquet of roses to his husband, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s head curator at the costume exhibit Andrew Bolton, it’s apparent this season is one to be bestowed with—irrespective of the date.
