2023 was defined by Barbie and one of the biggest contributors to its unprecedented hype was Margot Robbie’s sartorial commitment to her world press tour looks. Curated by her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, the revolving door of historically accurate ensembles drove fans wild. So it only makes sense that they are immortalised in a book—as was Mukamal’s intention from the beginning, according to his announcement of the project, Barbie: The World Tour.

“This book was an idea I had in my living room when I started dreaming about Margot’s wardrobe for the ‘Barbie’ press tour in March 2023,” Mukamal wrote in an Instagram post. “I could have never imagined just a few months later, we’d be in the studio shooting this project with the team of our dreams… This book is a labour of love, dedicated to all the Barbie lovers and fashion fans around the world.”

The caption accompanied a reveal of the book cover, which featured a glammed-up Robbie posed as a doll in a pink Chanel skirt suit, surrounded by accessories.

The press for the Greta Gerwig-directed film saw Robbie, Gerwig, and some of the cast head out on a world tour. Stops included Australia, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, England and the U.S. And at each stop—as well as the appearances that surrounded the visit—Mukamal ingeniously sourced outfits that referenced various real-life looks worn by the Mattel doll.

Though the Barbie press tour was cut short due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in July, a press release for the upcoming book explained how it led to Robbie and Mukamal working with renowned fashion photographer Craig McDean to shoot Robbie in the looks “exactly as they were curated”, including “Schiaparelli in Los Angeles, Vivienne Westwood in London, vintage Chanel with matching Streamline luggage at the airport, and beyond.”

“Our vision of Barbie, both as a character and the movie, is joyful and unapologetic,” Robbie explained in an interview. “So, here are these big, bold, joyful looks. They also have a lot of craft in them, and they are rooted in history, and brilliant designers worked really hard.”

Barbie: The World Tour is published by Rizzoli Publishing and is scheduled to hit shelves on March 8. It features a foreword by Edward Enninful, an introduction by Margaret Zhang and an afterword by Greta Gerwig.
