Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet were one of those Hollywood couples you never expected to part ways. Though we obviously know next to nothing about what goes on behind closed doors, every time the pair were spotted together they oozed that kind of soulmate love that could make even sceptics believe in The One.

But in January, taking the world by surprise, the pair announced that after 16 years together they were ending their relationship in a joint statement which Momoa shared to Instagram. It read, in part, “We share our Family news~ That we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy ~ But so that~ as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.” It continued, “The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other ~to be who we are learning to become…”

Then, a few months later, just last week, reports suggested the pair could be getting back together, claiming Momoa had moved back into their family home and put divorce proceedings on hold. A source reportedly told Hollywood Life, “Jason moved back in with Lisa about two weeks ago and they are very much back together. They decided to work on things rather than throw in the towel because they have so much invested in each other.” They added, “Lisa is, and always has been, the only woman that Jason has ever loved.”

Now, Momoa himself has spoken out about the separation, though he managed to neither confirm nor deny the most recent update. Following his appearance at The Batman premiere last week with his and Bonet’s two children – daughter Lola, 14, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13 – to support his step-daughter Zoë Kravitz (whom Bonet shares with musician Lenny Kravitz) and who stars in the film, Momoa took to Instagram.

Sharing a series of pictures from the event, he wrote, “So excited for everyone to see @thebatman. @zoeisabellakravitz your perfect as Catwoman, I’m so proud of you. So excited for @snl next week, your going to kill it [sic].”

Going on to address his split from Bonet, the actor added, “We had a wonderful time in NYC. Mahalo [thank you] to the fans and press for being generous and giving us space for the children, it’s hard enough separating in the public eye. We appreciate the continued privacy through these times, aloha, j.”

An interview with Men’s Health in 2020 was the last time Momoa publicly spoke about his relationship with Bonet, saying, “My wife is very sophisticated and smart and [our kids and I are] kind of like animals that need to be trained a little better. I’m constantly a work in progress, and I’ve just been trying to get better as a father and a husband.”

He also touched on his close relationship with Kravitz, saying, “I hope and pray my daughter is that talented and loving and open and close to her family.”
