In what might be bittersweet for former Calvin Klein creative director Raf Simons, Lady Gaga has stolen the Critics’ Choice Awards ‘blue’ carpet limelight in a dress from the entirely new line he masterminded for the label.

Called Calvin Klein by Appointment, the made-to-measure clothing and accessories service that’s offered women the bespoke tailoring once only available to A-list celebrities. Like 32-year-old megastar Gaga.

The singer – who was the first winner on stage when she collected the Best Song gong for A Star is Born theme song, Shallows – looked like a Hollywood icon in her blush-toned satin column dress complete with long train.

Far more simple and elegant than the giant lavender Valentino ball gown she wowed in at the Golden Globes (so voluminous she reportedly needed assistants to help her at bathroom breaks), this relatively minimalist dress was no less bombshell.

“Calvin Klein is not only about iconic underwear and jeans—it’s about so much more,” said award-winning Simons in a release in 2018 when he launched the By Appointment line, modelled in its launch campaign by Calvin Klein brand favourite Milly Bobby Brown.

Given his surprise recent departure from Calvin Klein after just a year in the head job, it’s unknown as to whether the bespoke offering will continue. After Gaga’s standout endorsement, it’s infinitely more likely.

“It is driven by character,” said Simon’s long-time right-hand man and Calvin Klein creative director Pieter Mulier about By Appointment. “It’s about a woman feeling empowered and being her own person in what she wears.”

That sounds like freshly-minted Critics’ Choice winner Lady Gaga to a tee. By Appointment? More like success By (Gaga) Anointment if we’re getting technical.
