Is there anything more powerful than nostalgia? Our collective wistful desire to turn to a bygone familiarity is what has kept the trend cycle turning ad infinitum.

It’s also why the genre of celebrity Halloween costumes has become a lucrative holiday. Rather than wait till the 31st of October to delve into the archives, Florence Pugh has selected a random date in the middle of January to deliver a masterful homage to the decade in which she was born; the 90s.

Despite only being alive for four years of the 20th Century, Pugh has sartorially referenced some of the pinnacle fashion moments from the period in her latest look. Pugh has turned back the clock in a chintzy chainmail mini from cult-favourite London label Poster Girl and revived the turn-of-the-millenium spiky hair style.

Of course, it takes a very seasoned style savant to emulate tropes of the past without looking too camp or kitsch. Posing with singer Rachel Chinouriri—who perfectly complemented Pugh’s ensemble with her fur trim set (also from Poster Girl)—the pair channelled contemporary Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell in their faux-developed film social posts.

In fact, we’d go so far to insist Pugh has taken a time machine and borrowed Moss’ 1999 Versace dress and Claire Danes’ Romeo + Juliet premiere hairstyle, just for the occasion.

If the 90s are calling to request their aesthetic back, please don’t answer the phone, Florence. We beg of you.
