When it comes to our American girls in Paris à la Carrie Bradshaw and Blair Waldorf—who are not to be confused with French-American girls like Lily-Rose Depp and Camille Rowe—sartorial Americanisms are left at the border, with their international wardrobe adhering to the je ne sai quois exuded on the des rues.

Whether it be Parisian or provincial style, the mode of dressing is one that adjusts to the opulent surroundings leading to disciples of the French girl aesthetic to prance around in effortlessly elegant silhouettes and timeless staples rather than the vibrant display of free-spirited style seen in Los Angeles or New York.

Following the hallmarks of the “French girl aesthetic” is a display we see every time a member of the celebrity style set descends on the city of lights, yet none more so than the Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie.

While in Paris to walk Jacquemus’ Princess-inspired Fall/Winter 2023 collection titled “Le Chouchou”, Kendall Jenner departed from her signature minimalist rodeo-inspired off-duty wardrobe for something more classic.

See, swapping her sturdy indigo denim jeans, western style boots and “stealth wealth” bodycon dresses that combat the Californian heat with coquettish corseted minis and grey draped pieces that emulate an Edwardian hip pad.

Though Jenner’s style is the most understated when compared with her sisters, the discernable style shift further cemented the notion of dressing like a local while overseas. Continuing her demure streak while in the French capital,  Jenner took to TikTok to display her newfound French conservative style in a string of Bottega Veneta dresses.

The 818 tequila founder’s first ensemble was an 18th Century coded A-line smock dress crafted in the colour of the season: grey. The piece, which debuted in Bottega’s Pre-Fall 23 collection was sans sleeves, calf-grazing, featured a keyhole cut out and gathered around Jenner’s waist, a design choice that was further accented by the draping of billowing fabric that tied in knots at her hip bones.

If Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antionette was shot today, we’d expect this dress to be in high rotation on the racks of the costume department.

The supermodel’s second look was similar to the risqué evening wear we’re used to seeing her in, however, inspired by the 50s rather than Jenner’s classic 90s silhouettes. Featuring a plunging neckline and embroidered with canary yellow sequins, Jenner’s second look is a contemporary play on Marilyn Monroe’s iconic The Seven Year Itch white dress. Indeed, the acme of sensualité.

Of course, considering this series of sweetheart looks came after Kylie Jenner abjured her Y2K and maximalist style for something more quaint and unassuming while she was recently in Paris, the time old idiom rings true: When in Paris, dress as the Parisians do.
