Known for her penchant for black dressing, it was refreshing to see Jennifer Aniston in an elegant ivory beaded gown at the 76th annual primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 15. The Oscar de la Renta floor-length number was teamed with Tiffany & Co. archival earrings, a bracelet and a ring—all in platinum with diamonds.
The 55-year-old actor is nominated in the Best Actress category for her role as the distinguished, sharp-shooting television anchor Alex Levy on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show (or Morning Wars as it’s known in Australia), now in its third season. Aniston will go head-to-head with co-star Reese Witherspoon for the golden gong, as well as Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Maya Erskine (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Anna Swai (Shōgun) and Imelda Staunton (The Crown).

Aniston took home Best Actress for the same role at the 2020 SAG Awards, a moment made famous when footage of the actor and ex-husband Brad Pitt reuniting backstage emerged.
“Boy, did we get to dive deep into our own experiences [to] breathe life into these extraordinary characters,” Aniston said upon accepting that award. “Who knew emotional breakdowns felt that good? It was literally like seven months of therapy covering 20 years of work. So, thank you for watching that!”

Aniston and Witherspoon, 48, first met on the set of Friends when Witherspoon, then 23, was playing Aniston’s character’s younger sister.
“I was 23 years old and had just had a baby,” Witherspoon told People. “I was nursing [daughter] Ava on set, and Jen just kept going, ‘You have a baby?’ I was like, ‘I know, it’s weird.’ … I remember her being like, ‘Where are you going?’ And I was like, ‘I’m pumping!’”
Speaking of Friends, fellow Emmy nominee Selena Gomez recently told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that it was Aniston’s character, Rachel, who taught her how to perfect the “gracious loser face” should she not win today. The scene in reference is one where Rachel teaches Joey how to accept a loss at an awards show. See Gomez’s impression here at the five-minute mark.
