In the fashion world, September is a perpetual month dedicated to sartorial excellence. Not only is it the start of the international Spring/Summer season presentations through fashion week, but it’s also the period when fashion magazines release their glossiest issues yet.

It’s also a time when the most glamorous of the celebrity style set descended on Venice for the annual film festival. Though this year’s iteration of the prestigious event has been marred by the historic SAG-AFTRA actors strike, the city has kept its veneer of pageantry and opulence.

Indeed, across the Lido and irrespective of the itinerary, visiting Venice in September is guaranteed to be a masterclass in style. Proving that theory true is George and Amal Clooney, the high-profile couple notorious for their sleek and polished couple style.

Eschewing the typical frivolity that follows illustrious A-listers, the Clooney’s unwavering devotion to humanitarian efforts has cemented their status as the acme of sophistication. So, when they descended on the island city earlier this week, our interest was piqued by their complimentary, nonchalantly elegant ensembles.

Their arrival was marked by airport-approved outfits more reminiscent of the 60s jet-set society rather than today’s leisurewear. Amal, the international law and human rights barrister, opted for a floral pinafore-style dress cut at her mid-thigh. Co-signing on this season’s viral mesh shoe trend, the mother-of-two paired the balmy dress with Roger Vivier’s sheer slingback kitten heels.

George, on the other hand, looked to a navy polo shirt and relaxed lightly striped trousers for his matured take on ‘off duty’ dressing. Yet, it was the couple’s evening wear that highlighted grandeur is all around the Lido, not just exclusive to the Venice Film Festival red carpet.

Stepping out to local canal-side restaurant Ristorante Da Ivo, the couple arrived in a gondola before parading their respective date night looks. Amal opted for a slinky emerald slip dress which featured a forest green satin and sheer layers. Continuing the navy colour palette, George appeared in a midnight-coloured dark blue suit.

Though the Clooney’s haven’t confirmed their attendance at the film festival, it’s assumed the lavish event is partially related to their Venetian sojourn. Amal will be honoured with a leadership award for her global work for victims of human rights abuse at Dita Von Furstenberg‘s 14th Annual DVF Awards later in the week.

Given their Lake Como estate, the Clooney’s gallivanting around Italy is second nature. Though, given Venice was the location of their 2014 civil wedding, it’s safe to say the Clooneys always go the extra mile when in town.
