Unlike many celebrities you see photographed on the streets of New York in a perfectly curated, paparazzi ready outfit – here’s looking at you, Julia Fox – Amal Clooney isn’t looking for that perfect street style shot: rather, she’s usually running from meeting to meeting while working on serious and difficult cases as a human rights attorney.
That means generally when we see Clooney she’s dressed for the job: think shift dresses, briefcases and stilettos. This week alone, she’s been pictured wearing both an ivory shift with a matching trench coat and a beige and black polka-dot dress with her laptop and files in her perfectly manicured hand:
But on Wednesday night, Clooney swapped her office digs (still very gorgeous pieces, may we add) for the perfect after-hours outfit, made up of every millennial woman’s go-to formula in the early 2010s: jeans and a nice top. Also known as a Going Out Top.
For dinner with her mother Baria Alamuddin at 4 Charles Prime Rib in Manhattan, Clooney wore a sheer, crystal-effect sequined top reminiscent of the recent Paco Rabanne chainmail that’s been making the rounds on the fashion circuit, paired with the perfect pair of loose-fitting denim.
Over top, Clooney wore a structured black blazer and upped the sex factor with silver Gianvito Rossi stilettos, a matching croc-embossed clutch bag and glittering earrings. Furthermore, Clooney’s black bra could just be seen through the material, giving the look an added on-trend appeal (Dua Lipa would very much approve).
Clearly a lover of fashion, Clooney understands that the Going Out Top is back in vogue – as are all other things sparkles and Y2K – but in her undeniably chic way, the 44-year-old managed to pull off the trend while looking timeless and elegant.
Beauty-wise, Clooney kept things casual, wearing her dark hair in her signature voluminous waves swept to the side with a swipe of pink lipstick and a stroke of black eyeliner.
Oh, to be Amal Clooney. Or, simply, to have a look inside her wardrobe.
