Emma Corrin may have rose to fame for her role as a young Princess Diana in the Netflix hit series The Crown, but make no mistake, her latest look is something else.

When she learned of the 2022 Met Gala theme – In America: An Anthology of Fashion, an homage to American 19th century style  – the actress went down the rabbit hole of sartorial history. In collaboration with stylist Harry Lambert and Miu Miu, she was photographed walking the red carpet in a towering top hat and oversized checked coat.

Speaking on the red carpet with Vanessa Hudgens and Hamish Bowels, The Crown alum explained that her inspiration came from Evander Berry Wall. The New York socialite was dubbed the ‘King of Dudes’ in 1880 and is famous for undergoing 40 costume changes before dinner. “Yes, four-tee,” Corrin confirmed. “He was a New York City socialite and later an American expatriate in France during the Belle Époque and beyond who was famous for his extravagantly refined look,” she added.

Her appearance at the annual event follows an equally-camp look from the Olivier Awards in London last month, where she wore Loewe by Jonathan  Anderson, further cementing herself as a style icon.
