Like Jared Leto spying that green coat on Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2017 runway and then wearing it on the red carpet, it’s clear that Victoria Beckham has fallen under Jacquemus’ titanic influence after attending the French luxuriate’s Fall 2023 collection in Paris.
The former Spice Girl was pictured exiting her hotel in the glitterati-laden Place Vendôme after sitting boat-side at the Grand Canal in the Palace of Versaille to view Jacquemus’ new-season show, ‘Le Chouchou’, wearing an ensemble that could easily have been inspired by the collection presentation.
For the outing, the fashion designer slightly departed from her signature colour-blocked, tailored-meets-skin-tight silhouette by exchanging her floor-grazing trousers and billowing blouses for a slim-cut single-breasted blazer.
Yes, the Posh Spice who made a uniform out of Tom Ford-era Gucci little black dresses opted for a pantless look in Paris by exclusively wearing a Saville Row staple.
The bottom half of her ensemble was completed with a pair of trompe-l’œil pantaleggings from Balenciaga. The stockings-esque piece featured black leggings overlaid with distressed white fishnet detailing and finished in a razor-sharp knife-point stiletto, a posh staple really.
Keeping her accessories understated, Beckham completed the look with a pair of oversized scuba sunglasses and boardroom essentials, namely her silver iPhone and matching silver notebook.
Of course, the timing of Posh experimenting with this nearly-naked silhouette hours after watching Jacquemus’ pantless FW23 collection isn’t lost on us. Inspired by the regalia of iconic princesses, mainly Princess Diana and Marie Antoinette, Jacqeumus’ creative director Simon Porte Jacquemus took to the resplendent green of Versaille’s park to unveil his latest offering.
If you hadn’t seen it on social media already, the collection’s standouts included billowing meringue style minidress and crinoline scrunchie-inspired bloomers, all styled sans pants. Victoria and her soccer maverick husband David were amongst the high-profile guests who watched the presentation from the comforts of a row boat perched upon the 1,670 metres long canal.
With Beckham snapped in the front row (boat) filming Gigi Hadid as she walked down the runway, it’s apparent where she got her sartorial inspiration from. As they say, if you can’t beat them, join them.
