Actress Courteney Cox attends the “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” Westwood Premiere on January 25, 1994 at Mann Bruin Theatre in Westwood, California.

Throughout Monica Geller and Rachel Green’s time as roommates, countless items of clothing, grievances over chores (or lack thereof) and decisions about interior decorating were traded as hotly as shares on the floor of the Wall Street Stock Exchange. Yet, never in their entire run did the characters ever eschew their trademark hairstyles in favour of the other’s signature cut and colour. That was, until now.

Perhaps coincidentally timed to the 30th anniversary of Friends, Courteney Cox has sliced her long tresses into a shaggy bob that can only be described as a lived-in version of ‘The Rachel’. Jennifer Aniston’s face-framing haircut is definitively the bona fide bob to aspire to, so we understand the rationale for taking inspiration from her beloved co-star. (Aniston herself also cut a few inches of her hair, with her current layers dangerously close to ‘The Rachel’ territory, if that’s any sign to book an appointment at your hair salon!)

Rather than dramatically debuting her new style à la Anne Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis during the makeover scene in The Princess Diaries, Cox hard-launched the style by partaking in a viral TikTok trend. The 59-year-old delivered the ultimate throwback by recreating Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 music video for his hit single “Dancing In The Dark”. Poking fun at the ‘asking my mum how she danced in the 80s’ trend, Cox revived the role she played as an eager fan invited to join ‘The Boss’ on stage. Who would’ve thought this iconic, albeit fictional, Manhattanite would take us back to the glory days dancing with this iconic New Jersey boy?

Cox’s former sister-in-law Patricia Arquette co-signed the nostalgic video and new haircut by commenting: “Kids still got it”. Aniston also acknowledged the post with a series of supportive emojis: ”👏🏽💃🏼😂” Safe to say that when it comes to celebrity hair transformations, they could hit you at any moment. Not even scrolling down your feed is safe from seeing Courteney Cox with a bob, Harry Styles with a buzzcut or Emily Ratajkowski with a new colour!

Though Cox’s long hair and middle part will always be a part of her beauty arsenal, it’s refreshing to see the actress deliver such a shakeup, especially as our Northern Hemisphere counterparts seek out low-maintenance styles in time for summer. Cox’s shoulder-length shaggy crop is full of volume and texture making it perfect for upkeep as it requires little styling—save for a mist with a Sam McKnight spray and a sweep through using the new La Bonne Brosse brush or Crown Affair comb, all available at Mecca.
