Jennifer Aniston has joined Reese Witherspoon, Zendaya, Janelle Monae, Rose Byrne and Helena Bonham-Carter on a Drama Actress Roundtable via Zoom to talk about everything from dismantling racism to on-screen typecasting in film.

Published on The Hollywood Reporter, the women were asked if they were ever pigeon-holed as an actor with one certain set of skills. Aniston piped up.

“I could not get Rachel Green off of my back for the life of me. I could not escape, ‘Just Rachel from Friends’,” says Aniston presumably from her home in Bel Air in Los Angeles. “And it’s on all the time and you’re like, ‘Stop playing this f***ing show!’”

“I completely fought with myself and who I was in this industry forever because it was just constantly about trying to prove that I was more than that,” she continued.

Aniston, now 50, acknowledged the role that changed this for her. “The Good Girl was the first time I got to really shed whatever the Rachel character was, and to be able to disappear into someone who wasn’t that was such a relief to me,” she says. “But I remember the panic that set over me, thinking, ‘Oh God, I don’t know if I can do this. Maybe they’re right. Maybe everybody else is seeing something I’m not seeing, which is you are only that girl in the New York apartment with the purple walls.’”

“So, I was almost doing it for myself just to see if I could do something other than that. And it was terrifying because you’re doing it in front of the world.”

Is it strange that my mind instantly goes to the Friends episode where Rachel buys the cat that “looks like a hand” which she swears keeps hissing at her “Rachhell”? As though the industry represent Mrs Whiskerson? See below at 2.12 minutes.

Maybe it’s just me. But if The Morning Show proved anything, it’s that Jennifer Aniston is a great actor.
