Blanca began with a very simple idea—a premise that has since been mined into a fully fleshed-out sartorial offering that (now) spans denim, menswear and leather accessories. The idea was such: craft the perfect oversized button-down shirt that every woman wants in her wardrobe. It’s the piece you hope to stumble across while vintage shopping but can never find. So with three contrasting colour-blocked panels and an understanding of social media virality, Blanca introduced the concept of timeless separates to a new generation of Australian shoppers.

Now, with their Resort ‘25 collection titled ‘Jardin’ (which translates to ‘garden’ in English), the label distilled the idea of closet staples into playfulness. “I think ‘Jardin’ cements our signature style yet recognises this need to always play; it’s a growing up of sorts,” Blanca’s founder and designer Ana Piteira told GRAZIA.  “We know the pieces we love, but we’re ready to explore and are open to trying something new. There’s value in the subversive details, even if the wearer alone is aware of them. We’re blooming, and we’re breathing some fresh air into the wardrobe.”

Like the opening curtains after a long winter, Blanca is letting the light in. The setting for the show conveyed this, too. Against the European-inspired grounds of the historic Vaucluse House, guests were transported to a place sunkissed and never-ending. Arrivals did feel like something out of Emerald Fennell’s sophomore film, Saltburn, but rather than lean into the chintzy noughties aesthetic of Venetia (Alison Oliver), the collection felt more inspired by the collegiate Oxford uniform of Felix (Jacob Elordi).

Boxy blazers in a neutral palette of swan white, pebble grey and taupe demonstrated the brand’s commitment to tailoring. But none more so than their signature shirting which was rendered in a new paisley print, featured Peter Pan collars and more sheer than ever with lace variations sneaking in. Temperate ease was balanced by more considered party pieces: a high-octane red skirt completely adorned with vibrant sequins, a very Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2022 sheer pink dress, a denim trench coat littered with rows of silver fringe.

The collection might have also been one of the most ready-to-wear of Day 4 in the sense that it was just that, ready to be worn. The front row was littered with Blanca women (and men) already sporting pieces from their own wardrobe that could be effortlessly layered with any garment shown on the runway. The street style set in and around Carriageworks also exhibited similar styling tricks—pairing indigo denim shorts with knee-high boots and offsetting black lace with something a little bit more structured.

As ‘Jardin’ won’t arrive until October, these next few months will be a time to tow the undergrowth in anticipation of what will sprout come Spring. There’s no need to question where the wild things are—they’ve been right under our noses the entire time.
