A new bout of The Crown hysteria is upon us, with the fourth season of Netflix’s sprawling Royal drama set to air on November 15th. Seeing as this instalment will cover the early 80s—better known in royal circles as ‘the Charles and Diana years’—it’s no surprise that Princess Diana nostalgia is at an all-time high.

Newcomer Emma Corrin will be playing the young princess as she navigates her courtship with Prince Charles, her famous wedding, and her early years as a Royal. This was the era of Fair Isle sweaters, skirt suits and OTT plaid, and many an iconic Lady Di ensemble was produced in this time (see our round-up of Princess Diana’s very best 80s looks here).

Of all the so-bad-they’re-good trends the princess embraced at the time, the most relevant today is the statement collar. Brands like Ganni, Batsheva, Vita Kin and Horror Vacui have helped put the Victorian-style Peter Pan collar back on the fashion map—as have the established fashion houses like Fendi and Miu Miu. Collars proved an ongoing hit among the street style set during the spring summer ’21 fashion shows in September—it’s a trend that has unsurprisingly endured in the era of Zoom.

Here, we round up five new-season collared pieces, so you can pay homage to the people’s princess while also sprucing up your #WFH get-up.
