When Blake Lively steps out—be it in Manhattan wearing a bohemian dress from a beloved Australian brand with her husband Ryan Reynolds or on a cryptic girls’ night with Taylor Swift—the world tends to pay attention. This is especially true when the outing comes without a word of notice, surprisingly showing up in a silhouette that piques our sartorial interests and collectively reaffirms why she’s the perennial New York City fashion darling—both on and off the screen.

Such was the case during an outing in Texas over the weekend. Lively took to a movie theatre in the Lone Star State for an impromptu screening of her newest project, It Ends With Us. In turn, she continued her mode of stealth method dressing that began with a 70s-inspired Chanel floral suit for the French maison’s dinner during the Tribeca Film Festival. If you’re unlike any of the millions who read Colleen Hoover’s New York Times best selling novel or watched the trailer for the film, the silver screen adaptation sees Lively plays a Boston-based florist shamelessly named Lily Bloom. Naturally, botanical motifs have been woven into all of Lively’s public-facing ensembles making her the latest A-lister to embrace their character through clothing.

For the occasion, Lively offered a simple gesture by recontextualising the tried-and-tested ‘jeans and a nice top’ combination into an elevated, press-tour-approved look. To do so, Lively took us back to where it all began in Valentino’s demi-couture denim. The jeans featured a light indigo wash and laser-cut hibiscus cutouts and retail at an eye-watering $28,000AUD. But given Lively made her career in a teen movie centering on a sorority of shared denim, we wouldn’t expect anything else from the actor. (Except an invitation to join the sisterhood of these travelling pants, of course!)

Though the look coincided with Alessandro Michele’s debut collection for the Italian luxuriate, Lively departed from the oversized shape seen on the model when this piece was unveiled during the brand’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection presentation at Milan Fashion Week. Instead, Lively leant into high-low styling by pairing the thigh-exposing trousers with Christian Louboutin’s denim So Kate stilettos and a white tank top.

Acknowledging her breakout film, Lively shared a series of images from the evening with the accompanying caption: “Well. You finally got a Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants sequel last night, except one of our sisters is looking extremely male…” The latter was a reference to her co-star Brandon Sklenar, who also joined the screening.

As we inch towards the film’s premiere, we’ll continue to update you every time Lively alludes to the project through her fashion choices. Until then, now is as good a time as any to acquaint yourself with the content material, so ensure to watch the trailer ahead!
