Ahead Of This Years’ Awards, Let’s Remember These Iconic BAFTAs Looks
All the nostalgia
Considered Britain’s answer to the Oscars, the BAFTAs are a big event on the awards season calendar. The ceremony, which serves to honour the best in British film and television, might not be taking place in the typical fashion this year given COVID-19 restrictions (and you know, most of the world being in lockdown), but we’re excited to see what the red carpet will bring.
It might not be the most notable night for fashion and beauty moments, but we’d like to think the BAFTAs are the quiet achievers in the red carpet stakes, and there have certainly been some show-stopping looks that have taken place at the London proceedings.
So ahead of the 2021 ceremony, we’ve rounded up a few of the most memorable fashion and beauty looks from the BAFTAs. Scroll down for some serious sartorial nostalgia.
Supermodel Elle Macpherson wore a strapless red Valentino dress with bombshell waves and bronzed, glowing makeup to the 2000 BAFTAs.
Hitting the tail-end of her boho phase, Sienna Miller chose this backless mermaid-style vintage Ungaro gown.
Cynthia Erivo might’ve been snubbed by the BAFTAs, but this look is a major win, from the lavender hair and matching smoky eye, the cut of the dress, right down to the nails.
Jerry Hall wore this heavenly white satin gown to the 1996 show.
Elizabeth Hurley owned all the BAFTAs red carpets, but this embellished Versace dress might just be our favourite.
She mightn’t offer the best advice when it comes to sunscreen, but there’s no denying Gwyneth Paltrow wears the hell out of a black sequinned two-piece.
Halle Berry can do no wrong on the red carpet, and this magenta number is no exception.
Lupita Nyong’o looked every inch a goddess in this Elie Saab dress, which she chose to wear in support of the Times Up movement.
Kate Middleton paired this intricate dress with a simple makeup and up-do, which kept all the focus on her cream Alexander McQueen gown.
We love Margot Robbie in this feathered-tweed confection from Chanel, which she wore back in 2018.
This tiered pastel pink gown alone should’ve scooped all the awards for Freida Pinto.
There is perhaps no greater power move in the red carpet playbook than donning a masculine-style suit for a red carpet event. Angelina Jolie wore a tuxedo to match her then-husband Brad Pitt on this occasion.
Naomi Campbell knows how to front up for a red carpet, and this Grecian-style Roberto Cavalli dress is proof.
This might be Kate Winslet’s best awards season look, ever. A black Stella McCartney masterpiece with sheer cut-outs and loose, flowing curls made for a truly memorable red carpet turn for the actress.
