May 20, 2021: The world is starting to open up again, which is great and all, but we’re having a hard time letting go of our comfy at-home footwear. The thought of swapping them for less comfortable, practical options sounds more painful than a long night in ill-fitting heels. The good news, though, is, recently, it seems the most significant shoe trends are controversial in taste but high in comfort. I mean, some of our favourite A-listers have shown up to the red carpet wearing gold-dipped Crocs and UGG boots

Ashely Olsen is the most recent celebrity to join those who aren’t willing to give up comfort just yet. This past weekend, the Full House alum stepped out in her comfy shoes and officially commenced open-toed shoe season. Olsen (who tends to keep a private life away from cameras) was spotted wearing a pair of black flip-flops on her way to dinner with friends. Her sandals are seemingly unconventional for the New York City streets, leaving our bare feet vulnerable to the trash and icky puddles. Nevertheless, we commend The Row designer, who executed the look while looking incredibly chic. Olsen paired her sandals with a business casual look, including an oversized navy blue coat and electric blue shirt cuffed at the sleeves and worn slightly unbuttoned.

Olsen's Sandals
Ashley Olsen is seen out walking home late evening after dinner in Manhattan on May 14, 2021 in New York City.

Naturally, the 34-year-old’s thong sandals are from The Row, which come in a platform version, too, for those who want a slight elevation from the city streets.) The sandal is a very chic iteration of the classic flip flop we all know and love—and definitely had one point in our lives. What separates hers from the ones you wore in your university showers is that hers are absolute luxury, with a steep price tag of $760.

The thong sandal trend, similar to Crocs, is hugely divided by the fashion crowd. Again, like Crocs, all things early aughts-inspired have made a comeback this summer thanks to celebs like Kim Kardashian and Alessandra Ambrosio. If you’re into the footwear fad, we uncovered some of the best on the market right now. And if you’re not willing to settle for anything other than the exact ones the star wore in her impeccable transitional ensemble, they’re still available at Nordstrom, FYI.
