Copious debate has raged in fashion circles about New vs Old Celine(é), given Hedi Slimane’s grungy radical departure from much-loved former designer Phoebe Philo’s chic aesthetic, but today at the SAG Awards actress Amy Adams shows us which #team she belongs to.

The brilliant double nominee, who’s up for best supporting actress for VICE and best female actor in a mini-series for Sharp Objects, stepped out in a custom-made Celine gown based on a key look from Slimane’s debut collection for the French brand.

Rather than the punkish ’80s-inspired tiered mini-dress teamed with boots we saw on the Spring/Summer 2019 runway, Adams’ look was altered to look appropriately demure for a red carpet outing.

The ruffled strapless bustier and sequinned waistband were identical to his runway creation, but Slimane extended the skirt’s voluminous second layer to the floor for the actress, adding an Angelina-worthy thigh split to add a touch of sexy skin and make walking in the column style easier.

Cartier jewellery, velvet platform mules by Jimmy Choo and nude pink pedicure finished Adams’ look. They’re far cry from the biker boots, spotted veil and smeared eye makeup that accompanied the dress’s first iteration down Slimane’s Paris Fashion Week runway, but far more fitting for a glamorous Hollywood starlet.
