Winter is coming soon for the characters on Game Of Thrones, but as for when we’ll finally get to watch the HBO series’ eighth and final season? Not so fast.

Following the dramatic season seven finale airing this week – which included revelations about Jon Snow’s parents and a shocking sex scene – the question on everyone’s lips is when season eight will air.

HBO has not announced a premiere date yet, but various people involved with the production have dropped hints about how long we’ll have to wait.

The network’s chief Casey Bloys recently warned it’s entirely possible season eight won’t air until 2019, depending on how long filming takes.

However, that would be an unusually large gap, given there’s typically about a year between seasons, so Bloys is likely erring on the side of caution with that estimation.

According to some cast members, shooting of the final season is due to start in October. With 9 – 11 months between Game Of Thrones seasons on average, a June/July 2018 season eight premiere is more likely – unless of course HBO really wants to stretch out GOT’s life as long as possible.

On top of the excruciatingly long wait, another blow for GOT fans is that season eight will have just six episodes. Past seasons typically had 10, until season seven which dropped down to seven. However, there have been reports that some, if not all of the season eight episodes will extend from an hour to 90 minutes in length.

With almost a year to wait (at least) until the final season of Game Of Thrones, we’re all going to have to get a hobby. Analysing Taylor Swift lyrics it is.
