It’s sonic is literally the second coming of Bad Blood only this time the shade seemingly is casted toward the dormant feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West. In retaliation to the rapper’s infamous Famous lyrics, Swift has released a very literal single titled Look What You Made Me Do, the first from her highly anticipated sixth album, Reputation.

And, there’s no high road being taken. Working with Jack Antonoff (the producer for Lorde, Sia, St Vincent etc), Swift’s sound is a continuation of 1989’s pop take but there’s no beating around the bush in its meaning with lyrics like “I don’t like your little games/ I don’t like your tilted stage”, “the role you made me play, of the fool/ No, I don’t like you and “I’ve got a list of names and yours in underlined in red”.

Perhaps the most telling lyric of all includes “I’m sorry the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cos she’s dead”. The internet suggests this is referencing West calling Swift to “approve” his Famous lyrics which the popstar claims didn’t include every part of his song, notably the line “I made that b*tch famous.” She denounced his actions publicly cuing West’s wife Kim Kardashian to release a video and audio of her husband and Swift’s phone conversation. Are you following? It’s a predictable move by Swift and while a little tiring, is still part-entertaining to watch unravel.

Reputation will drop November 10.
