With less than three months to go until Wonder Woman hits cinemas on June 2, Warner Bros has released an exciting new poster for the film.
The image tweeted by Gal Gadot, who will portray the iconic character in the female-led superhero film, shows Wonder Woman kneeling while holding her sword and shield against a rich sunset with the word ‘WONDER’ emblazoned below her.
It’s not like this film needs any more buzz than it’s already had, especially given the fortuitous timing of its release as a new wave of feminism takes hold across the world following the Women’s March on Washington movement.
In the trailer released last year – timed to drop days before Hillary Clinton was predicted to be voted America’s first female president – Gadot is the epitome of a powerful heroine, standing up against a wall of men with guns and deflecting them with ease using her wrist cuff.
Part of the trailer is set in the present day – Wonder Woman, AKA Diana Prince is shown at the glass pyramid at the Lourve in Paris – adding to speculation that the story might link to her appearance in Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and her upcoming role in 2017’s Justice League, both of which are set in the present.
After the collective disappointment of Batman Vs. Superman and Suicide Squad, which didn’t overly impress the critics or many punters, fans are holding out hope that Wonder Woman will be the good DC Comics film we’ve been waiting for.
Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine and Robin Wright and is due on June 2.
