If you’re like us, you’ve been following Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet’s every move leading up to the Dune premiere this weekend. The fashion that they’ve presented has been a study in space-age chic at the intersection of sleek, contemporary silhouettes.

Zendaya, in her own right, is a bona fide fashion icon, so it’s no surprise to anyone that her looks have been slaying the game. But give her a theme, such as Dune promotion, and watch her soar. Timothée is effortlessly stylish, and while he doesn’t shift outside the realm of traditional masculine aesthetics too often, it is done so tailored and so right, that it’s hard to find any faults with him keeping it safe. What makes it work so well is a eclectic mix of fabrics and colors that spice up what can be a very monotonous silhouette.

So let’s take a journey into the looks that have been dominating social media since Timothée and Zendaya started the Dune press tour, and break down the elements of these outfits that make them so good in the first place.

Venice Film Festival

This is the moment when we knew they meant business.

These looks popped up on our social media feeds and basically dominated all aspects of the pop culture sphere when they were debuted, and rightly so. For this look, Zendaya wore a custom Balmain molded dress. The leather gown clung so tightly to her figure that it almost appeared wet, with damp-looking hair to match. With a thigh-high leg split and draping in all the right places, Zendaya, with the help of her patron saint of style, Law Roach, coordinated this look with bright emerald Bulgari Magnifica high jewellery necklace and a pair of nude Louboutin heels.

Balmain said of the gown “”The bespoke leather gown was crafted using an exact model of the stars’ bust, taking full advantage of the Balmain atelier and the house’s artisanal tradition.”

Timothée on the other hand, went a little more casual with this particular red carpet. He came on to the scene in a sequined Haider Ackermann pullover, pants and leather Chelsea boot, all in black with the exception of a white undershirt. He also featured various rings and a beaded bracelet, both from Cartier.

In Paris

Usually, when doing a promo for a new film, the debut look is usually the strongest, which explains the Venice look. But as their second press event for Dune, Timothée and Zendaya kept a consistent level of quality with yet another stunning duo of looks. While drastically different from the first, this event, hosted by the Grand Rex cinema hall in Paris, brought a different kind of flare.

Let’s start with Zendaya. To this event, she stunned in a Maison Alaïa gown designed specifically by creative director Pieter Mulier. The two piece dress shaped her beautifully with a fur flare-out towards the bottom in rich shades of burgundy. And while you can’t see them initially, she sported a pair of Jimmy Choo pumps. The hair was big and beautiful, which made the shape of the overall look dynamic and varied. This look was also styled by her go-to stylist, Law Roach.

Timothée on the other hand opted for a blue Tom Ford suit, looking sleek and well-tailored as ever. The coat featured a deep-purple satin lapel and a slightly open white undershirt that gave the overall outfit a casual twist.

But they weren’t done in Paris after this one look, later photos show Timothée and Zendaya posing in front of the Eiffel Tower alongside Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson and French-Canadian director of Dune, Denis Villeneuve.

I mean, what more could you want than Zendaya in Vivienne Westwood.

Both Timothée and Zendaya went maximalist with these looks, in various, eclectic patterns, textures, colors and fabrics, this duo was a sight for sore eyes. Zendaya took this look directly off the Vivienne Westwood Spring 2020 runway, with a chained corset and a checkered midi skirt. According to Vivienne Westwood, the the corset was made from “oxidized brass” and the Bogolan fabric skirt was “printed with natural dye created in collaboration with the Ethical Fashion Initiative.” Again, styled by Law Roach.

Timothée wore a Stella McCartney patterned suit, adorned with floral and mushroom prints in a coloring of blues and greens and a pair of white heeled Chelsea boots, a signature of Timothée’s style thus far.

And finally, the look to top all looks.

Zendaya fully channeled the space-age glamour that we’ve come to associate with this press tour. The dress, designed by Rick Owens and pulled from the Fall 2021 ready-to-wear collection, fully encapsulated the energy of the character Zendaya plays in Dune, Chani. Adorned with thousands of sequin, this sculptural dress was simultaneously sleek and stylish while also providing a sense of exaggerated costume and extravagance.

She glistened in diamonds from Bulgari, with a reported 48.25 carats of diamonds from the brand’s Serpenti Viper collection. The jewelry included three double-coil bracelets, various rings and rough-diamond stud earrings.

The slick updo Zendaya sported was done by hair stylist Antoinette, while her face was expertly painted by makeup artist Raoúl Alejandre and of course styling by Law Roach

Timothée was dressed in a metallic Saint Laurent suit and yet another pair of Chelsea boots, but this time they featured a signature sheen to them that added to the space-age flare of the evening. He was styled by Erin Walsh, and featured jewels also by Saint Laurent.

But Zendaya wasn’t quite done. To give us another bit of iconic style, she was spotted attending an after party for the event in a slip Nensi Dojaka gown, where she looked sleek as ever.
