The Emmys looked a little different this year. Instead of celebrities walking the red carpet with hundreds of photographers and fans lining the streets, 2020 nominees hosted their own events, including Issa Rae and the Insecure cast taking over a football stadium, the Schitt’s Creek cast’s private party in Toronto and the mini Friends reunion at Jennifer Aniston’s house.

But no event was better than Zendaya’s, consisting of her whole family sitting around to find out that she had broken a record to become the youngest person to win the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama series for her role in Euphoria.

Wearing her second outfit of the night, a custom Armani Prive gown featuring a beaded crop top and full polka dot skirt, Zendaya sat in her living room surrounded by her family when she was announced as the winner. After a lot of screams and a brief cuddle with her father, the 24-year-old composed herself to read out her handwritten acceptance speech.

After thanking the academy and mentioning her admiration of the other actresses in her category, the 24-year-old said, “I know that this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people, and I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets: I see you, I admire you, I thank you.”

Later, on her Instagram stories, Zendaya wrote that she’s “so grateful, still speechless” and that she’s going to go to sleep to make sure this isn’t a dream.

The virtual awards ceremony didn’t stop Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, from getting his Emmy-winner to do an outfit change for the night, either. Before her winning Armani Prive look, Zendaya wore a black and purple Christopher John Rogers dress with a pair of Louboutins.

A winning wardrobe for a winning woman.
