People can be defined into two camps, depending on their sartorial preparations. You might be a ‘planner’, someone who meticulously lays out their ensemble the evening before an event, spends the morning ironing or organising and mentally files, sorts and rearranges their wardrobe any chance they get. These are the Charlotte Yorks and Monica Gellers of the world. Then, there are the ‘spontaneous’, those who whip up the most perfectly assembled outfit in under half an hour using pieces scattered on their bedroom floor and tucked away at the very back of their closet. These are the Carrie Bradshaws and Rachel Greens.

One would think that global superstar and the definitive red carpet ‘method dresser’ Zendaya would fall into the former camp. But as her stylist and image architect Law Roach revealed in a new profile, the recent Challengers star is actually the latter. Well, at least for one of the most important events in her career, that is. Come the first Monday in May, Zendaya will cement what we all know by attending the Met Gala as a co-chair.

For someone who pioneered an entirely new way of approaching the red carpet, one would think that her outfit would’ve been her biggest preoccupation as soon as this certain sunglass-wearing global editorial director extended her the invite. But when you stay booked and busy promoting your latest theatrical releases, the ever-important question of ‘what to wear’ seemingly falls to the wayside.

Speaking to another veteran fashion editor, Roach confirmed neither he nor Zendaya has seen her Met Gala dress yet. No secret shots in the atelier, or sketches rendering an illustrated version of the style savant in the piece. According to Roach, the dress in question hasn’t even been made yet. Talk about leaving it too close for comfort.

But never fear, with the dynamic duo at hand—and a stalwart yet-to-be-revealed designer at the helm—we have no doubts Zendaya will be one of the best dressed on fashion’s night of nights. With four days until the prestigious ball, Zendaya and Roach have confirmed that the fitting will take place only two days before she’s slated to ascend the Met steps. Leaving your Met dress to the last minute might not be the anxiety-inducing mode we’d follow, but don’t forget this is Roach and Zendaya we’re talking about. We’ll be eating whatever she’s serving.
