It wasn’t a wedding, but Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan subscribed to the age-old adage, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” at this year’s Oscars.
Arriving at the 92nd Academy Awards in a sculptural Gucci gown, Ronan’s dress featured something borrowed (the dress itself), something new (her Gucci clip earrings), something blue (the periwinkle blue fabric at the bottom of the dress) and something old (the black satin). Yes, the black silk of the triangle bodice and ruffle waist was in fact from her black BAFTAs gown, refashioned in a glamorous new way by Alessandro Michele for today’s Oscars.
In another sustainable twist, the original gown was already a piece of sustainable fashion in itself, with Michele crafting the BAFTAs dress from discarded satin which he upcycled into a ballooning black ballgown.
With Saoirse Ronan a keen player in the sustainability cause, how refreshing it is to see her go recycled on the red carpet again.
