The TikTok algorithm knows I love beauty. In fact, the app has swiftly become the primary place I find product recommendations, easy to replicate how-tos, and helpful and practical expert beauty advice.

Of course, not every hack lives up to the hype — there’s no shortage of beauty content on the app, after all — but in the past few months I’ve tried and loved three TikTok beauty trends so much that I feel morally obliged to share them.

So, here they are: my favorite skin, makeup, and hair tips straight from TikTok.

The skincare routine that saves me from over-exfoliating

If you haven’t heard of skin cycling, the skincare routine created by N.Y.C.-based dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe, let me introduce you. The evening routine involves “cycling” different skincare products over four nights to ensure your skin remains hydrated and is never over-exfoliated.

On the first night of skin cycling, Dr. Bowe recommends applying a chemical exfoliant, followed by a retinoid product on the second night, and then giving your skin two nights to recover with a focus on skin nourishment and hydration.

As someone who is hyperconscious of damaging their skin barrier, this four-day routine allows me to use a chemical exfoliant and retinoid (both of which I know are very important for my 31-year-old face) without over-doing it. On recovery nights, I apply products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and squalane, as recommended by Dr. Bowe, and do hydrating face masks.

After skin cycling for around a month, I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin, and found my evening routine much easier to manage. You can shop products that are perfect for skin cycling at the links below.

The three makeup products that create the perfect skin base

If you’ve spent any time on BeautyTok, chances are you’ve seen this viral video that claims to know the secret to celebrity’s flawless makeup base. According to the unverified makeup artist, the secret to the perfect base is a hydrating primer, Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, and a skin tint — not a foundation.

In the original TikTok, which has close to 500,000 likes, creator Savannah Rae Collins applies the three products, using a damp beauty blender to combine the final two.

While the TikTok recommends Becca’s Backlight Primer, which is no longer available after the brand’s closure, and Elf Poreless Putty Primer as a substitute, other TikTokkers have replicated the look using a number of different products. Personally, I use Mecca Cosmetica Fresh Faced Hydrating Primer, along with Flawless Filter and ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint, which comes in 30 different shades.

Since trying this hack for the first time, I’ve continued to repeat it almost every time I wear makeup. The primer helps everything stay in place, and choosing a tint over a foundation means that my skin looks like, well, my skin—only better. Together the three products do provide some coverage, but mostly, they create a glow that distracts from anything else going on with your face that day.

You can shop the three products I swear by via the links below.

And the hack that’s left me even more obsessed with my Dyson Airwrap

As a recent Dyson Airwrap convert, I’ve been scouring TikTok for any hacks promising to make the styler even better. If you’re not super familiar with the Airwrap it’s a kind of do-it-all hairdryer and styler that leaves you looking like you’ve just left the salon, whether you’re opting for bouncy curls, beachy waves, or just want every single strand sleek and without flyaways. This hack works to keep your Airwrap curls in place longer with the use of hairspray and a few bobby pins.

Though demonstrated on the original multi-styler (the latest version was released just a couple of months ago and includes new and improved attachments) it works the exact same way on any Airwrap. After blasting your curl with warm, then cold, air, use the grooves in the attachment to gently slide a bobby pin into place.

I generally use this trick when I’m getting ready for a night out. So, as recommended in the video, I dry and style my hair using the Airwrap, then let my curls set while I apply my makeup.

I have naturally fine hair and I’ve been genuinely shocked by the volume and bounce my hair has after using the Airwrap. You can shop the latest Dyson Airwrap at the link below.
