For many years Julia Roberts had stepped away from the romantic comedy genre because after the films that ultimately made her famous, like Pretty Woman and My Best Friends Wedding, she told the New York Times that a good script just “didn’t exist”. In 2021 however, the actress embarked on the long haul flight to Australia to film possibly her last ever rom-com.

Overnight Universal Pictures released the trailer to Ticket to Paradise starring Roberts alongside longtime collaborator George Clooney. The cast also includes Kaitlyn Dever and Billie Lourd while Emily in Paris star Lucas Bravo will make his film debut.

The film is directed by OI Parker (known for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and follows an ex husband and wife (Clooney and Roberts) as they travel to Bali — which was actually filmed in Queensland — to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made. But through their experience seemingly fall in love with each other all over again.

The on-screen pair have also starred in Ocean’s Eleven and Money Monster.

The script is written by Daniel Pipski and is produced by Tim Bevan (Darkest Hour, The Danish Girl) and Eric Fellner (The Theory of Everything, Les Misérables) for Working Title, Sarah Harvey (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Deborah Balderstone (Palm Beach, Gone), by George Clooney and Oscar® winner Grant Heslov (Argo, The Midnight Sky) for Smokehouse Pictures and, by Julia Roberts, Lisa Roberts Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill for Red Om Films.

Luckily for you and I, we won’t have to wait long for the release which will drop into theaters on October 21.

Australia has become an unofficial Hollywood in recent years with the recently-released ELVIS and Thor: Love and Thunder both filmed Down Under. Anya Taylor-Joy has also recently traveled to Australia for the upcoming Mad Max prequel.
