Almost 20 years after The Devil Wears Prada indirectly inspired a generation of fans to pursue careers in the cutthroat world of fashion publishing, its sequel is finally confirmed.
As Variety reported, Disney has been developing a sequel to the 2006 original. The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, and director, David Frankel, returned to tell the next chapter. And now, we have the first teaser for the film.
Scored to the iconic instrumental of Madonna’s ‘Vogue’, the clip shows Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly stomping through the halls of the Runway magazine office in bright red Valentino Rockstud pumps, with flashes of glamorous fashion photo shoot scenes. As the elevator doors almost close behind Streep, Anne Hathaway—as a decidedly better-dressed, but still flustered Andy Sachs—joins her.
“Took you long enough,” Priestly asserts as the clip fades to black, and we couldn’t agree more!

The initial film, which was adapted from the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, follows the wide-eyed journalist Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, who lands a coveted role as a personal assistant to Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Though she holds no affinity for the fashion industry or the job that “a million girls would die for”, she sets out to endure the gruelling demands of her boss and coworkers. Upon publication, the novel’s plot garnered worldwide attention for the author’s prior position as Anna Wintour’s assistant, leading some to believe it was semi-autobiographical.
The film also launched a thousand think pieces about the politics of magazine culture, fashion and even about what really makes a villain in 2000s romcoms (here’s looking at you, Nate), and still sits on style moodboards for its iconic wardrobe, courtesy of the legendary Patricia Field.

As one of the most defining (and quotable) films of the 2000s, its multi-generational fandom has been understandably blowing up the internet with theories and plot projections, but little has actually been confirmed about the project.
Below, here’s everything we know about the sequel.
Who will star in The Devil Wears Prada 2?

In glorious news, Meryl Streep reprises her role as Miranda Priestly, Runway magazine’s fierce editor, to dish out her signature penetrating glares and soul-crushing pursed lips.
Anne Hathaway, who played the film’s lead, Andy Sachs, is also returning despite expressing some hesitancy in the past. In a 2024 interview with V Magazine, she suggested the world was too different to picture how a sequel might turn out.
“We all love each other, and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” she told the publication. “But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now, with so much being digital, it would just be very different. Maybe me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Dave Frankel, Patricia Field, we should just all do something else together. That’d be fun.”
Emily Blunt, who played Sachs’ adversary-turned-equal, Emily Charlton, also coyly confirmed her involvement to Entertainment Weekly. When asked when production was starting, she responded, “July.” Since then, photos from set have shown the actress dressed in her character’s signature high-fashion looks, but with a fresh platinum blonde hair transformation.
Stanley Tucci, who portrayed Sachs’ sole ally and fan favourite, Nigel Kipling, also returns.
Newcomers include Bridgerton‘s Simone Ashley, Patrick Brammall, Pauline Chalamet and Sydney Sweeney.
And because many would include the movie’s wardrobe as a character in and of itself, fans are holding out for a return of Patricia Field, who famously led the fashion on Sex and the City and recently worked as a consultant on Emily in Paris.

What is the plot?
While Weisberger’s second novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, follows Andy and Emily as they come together to launch a bridal magazine ten years after her initial foray into fashion, it’s been reported that the film’s sequel will not follow the book.
Much is being kept under wraps while the cast and writers are still being finalised, but the storyline for The Devil Wears Prada sequel will allegedly follow Priestly as she navigates her position amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. In a turn of events, the veteran editor faces off against her former assistant, Emily, who now works as a high-level executive for a luxury group that holds the keys to make-or-break advertising dollars.
As people who work in fashion publishing, colour us intrigued to see how this turns out…
