Tessa Thompson And Chanel Are A Match Made In Heaven

Few stars working in Hollywood today can wear clothes quite like Tessa Thompson. The actress, who rose to prominence for her role in the Creed franchise, is currently staging a virtual press tour for the critically lauded period drama Sylvie’s Love—showcasing her uncanny ability to pull off eclectic looks from a vast range of designers. Working with the styling duo, Wayman and Micah, whose client book also includes Regina King and Julia Garner, Thompson has worn new-season outfits by the likes of Gucci and Burberry, including a particularly good off-the-runway look by Chanel.

The outfit, which debuted back in June as part of the brand’s Resort 2021 collection, features wide-leg trousers, a camellia flower-motif bodysuit, a double-layered belt, and woven slides. Thompson, adding her own flair, accessorized with lashings of layered gold jewelry, and accessorized with the culty mini Chanel waist bag. Thompson’s relationship with the French maison is well established. She wore a column gown from the brand’s Grecian-inspired couture collection to the 2019 Oscars, and wore a bespoke Chanel piece to the 2019 ‘Notes on Camp’ Met Gala.

Elsewhere on the press tour, Thompson has championed new and emerging designers, like the recently graduated Parisian designer Estelle Zou (Thompson wore Zou’s deconstructed velvet and cotton Victorian-inspired dress for a press day earlier this week). Marine Serre—an emerging star on the international fashion scene, whose avant-garde silhouettes and clever upcycling techniques have found fans in the likes of Kylie Jenner and Beyoncé—is another favorite, as is Christopher John Rodgers, arguably the breakout designer of 2020. Thompson kicked off press for Sylvie’s Love in a voluminous chiffon creation by Rodgers, and it remains one of the best looks of the whole tour.

All in all? While we look optimistically toward a 2021 filled with the return of red carpet style, we can trust Tessa Thompson and her impeccable taste to see us through to the New Year.
