It’s rare for a celebrity figure to give real insight into their personal struggles. But Sophie Turner—the beautiful, smart and funny Sophie Turner—is the exception to this rule. In a new interview, the 28-year-old Games Of Thrones actor has opened up about her tumultuous split and divorce from musician Joe Jonas.

The couple split in September 2023 after four years married and two daughters. Soon after, Jonas reportedly filed for divorce without Turner’s knowledge and the pair became embroiled in an extremely public custody battle over Willa, who is almost four, and Delphine, who turns two in July.

But it was the rumours that began percolating and the headlines that began circulating—the toxic ones that played into the wayward-mother-who-loves-to-party trope—that began taking a toll on Turner.

“I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” Turner remembers. “There were some days that I didn’t know if I was going to make it.

“I was contracted to be on set [of new film Joan] for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave,” she continued. My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out …It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real! I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’”

Leaning on her family, her close friends and her lawyer, Turner tried desperately to reset her mindset.

“I would call my lawyer saying, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t.’ I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself,” Turner said. “And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for. Once anyone says to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I’m doing it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I’ll find the strength for them.”

Turner even details how she thought she may have to take medication to help combat her anxiety but “surprisingly” didn’t need to. Now back at home in the UK, and with a new love interest, the actor says she’s “the happiest I’ve been in a really long time. I’m starting over again, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with.”

We’re so happy to hear this.
