Multi-hyphenate artist Solange Knowles is lending her talents to the New York City Ballet this fall. The star composed her very first original ballet score to be performed by the City Ballet Orchestra at Manhattan’s Lincoln Center with a soloist from Knowles’ own ensemble.

The star was “very excited” to announce the news, sharing the list of show dates on Twitter and Instagram, which include October 1, 8, 11, and 16, and May 2, 11, 13, 17, and 18, along with smiley photos and selfies at the New York City Ballet.

It marks a major accomplishment as Knowles is the first Black woman to compose a score for a New York City Ballet production, according to NBC.

The performance (choreographed by Gianna Reisen) will premiere at the annual Fall Fashion Gala on September 28 in celebration of the event’s 10th anniversary. This year the event will honor the New York City Ballet Vice Chair, Sarah Jessica Parker.

Solange (who is the younger sister to Beyoncé), is best known for her albums including 2019’s When I Get Home, 2016’s A Seat at the Table, and 2012’s True.

The 36-year-old Grammy Award-winner also has experience in choreography and the visual arts, having done creative performances at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as the Chinati Foundation in Texas, and the Elbphilharmonie in Germany.

Fans already know talent certainly runs in the family (Beyoncé’s new album Renaissance is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart), so we can’t wait to see Knowles’ new work (and hopefully a family reunion at the gala!).
