When the invitation for the 2024 Met Gala stipulated guests dress to the theme of ‘The Garden Of Time’, it was clear a sartorial odyssey through designer archives would take command of the red carpet. But one proverbial ‘Sleeping Beauty’, Sienna Miller, took this notion one step further.
Donning a new season, fresh-off-the-runway tiered lace gown from Chloé, the 42-year-old actress paid homage to her history instead by showcasing an ‘aesthetic’ she’s not only synonymous with but helped become a mainstay within the zeitgeist.
If it wasn’t for the fact Miller walked the red carpet arm in arm with the recently appointed creative director of the free-spirited luxuriate, Chemena Kamali, we might’ve believed you if you told us this was plucked directly from the annals of 2006. (Miller also walked the ombré carpet with Barbie director Greta Gerwig, star Emma Mackey and fellow actress Zoë Saldaña.)
Awakening unsung fashion is certainly what underscores this year’s exhibition, so Miller’s ethereal layers of lace instantly earned a spot in ‘Best Dressed’ lists.
The piece, which was actually shown on burgeoning Australian model Angelina Kendall in Chloé’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection presentation, features a high Victorian-style neckline, a thigh-grazing hemline, intricate train and billowing long sleeves with the panoply’s signature ruffles.
Sadly, Miller didn’t reach for the decorative wooden and leather platform wedges that littered Kamali’s debut front row. Instead, she chose a pair of high-shine black leather studded pumps.
Converging the spirit of the early 2000s and hedonistic late 70s isn’t a challenge, but on the veritable boho-chic ‘It girl’, Miller really has roused a nostalgic sentiment once relegated to the past.
Earlier in the week, Miller stepped out at a pre-Met Gala soirée with her partner Oli Green wearing a one-of-one modish shift dress featuring an oversized lily rosette.
The couple recently welcomed their newborn daughter only a few months prior, making these back-to-back looks another feather in Miller’s postpartum fashion cap. Her slinky cobweb slip dress is, of course, another honourable mention too.
But at an event celebrating Sleeping Beauties, Miller remains our perennial dream girl.
