Selena Gomez’s new documentary My Mind & Me has thrust the singer and actor back into the spotlight, especially when it comes to talk about her private life. The Apple TV+ film shed light on the star’s battles with mental and physical health, while also documenting her rise to fame and the impact that had on friends and family.

Gomez has since done media appearances, one being an interview with Rolling Stone. In the candid chat, Gomez said Taylor Swift is currently her only “industry friend.”

“I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities,” she says. “My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong.”

This was news, apparently, to Francia Raisa, an actress with roles in How I Met Your Father and Bring It On: All Or Nothing. She’s also the person who gave a kidney to Gomez back in 2017 during her critical health battle with lupus.

At the time, Gomez spoke to The Today Show, saying she didn’t want to ask anyone in her life, but Francia Raisa volunteered. “She lived with me in this interesting time where my kidneys were just done. That was it. I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. The thought of asking somebody to do that was really difficult for me. She volunteered and did it—and let alone somebody wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match. The fact that she was a match, I mean, that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.”

Raisa, it seems, was not into Selena Gomez saying Taylor Swift is her only industry friend. The actor wrote “Interesting” under an E! News post regarding Gomez’s comment, then quickly deleted it. However, fans also noticed that Raisa unfollowed Gomez that day on Instagram.

Things escalated the following day, with Gomez commenting on a TikTok video that explained the drama with “sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.”

Raisa and Gomez were still firm friends at the time of all this controversy — Raisa was a guest at Gomez’s 30th birthday, and has been featured on her TikTok.

So yes, it’s a lot. It’s highly likely fans and media have blown the rift out of proportion, but it definitely seems like Raisa was offended by the comment — although it doesn’t sound like Gomez meant it the way it’s been taken. Some fans are speculating that perhaps Gomez meant her only music industry friend, or that Raisa is more than an industry friend — she’s a close circle person for Gomez.

Whatever the case, we hope these two can mend their friendship.
