Sean Penn Hosts Fundraiser for CORE at Art Basel with Leonardo DiCaprio and Marc Anthony in Attendance
Benefitting CORE’s Crisis Response Programs, Sean Penn’s fundraiser drew in a crowd at Art Basel Miami
Last night, Academy Award winning actor and philanthropist Sean Penn hosted a fundraiser for CORE MIAMI, aiding the organization’s Crisis Response Programs throughout Latin America, Haiti, and Brazil. Standing for Community Organized Relief Effort, CORE is a crisis relief nonprofit co-founded by Penn and the company’s CEO, Ann Lee. Penn’s daughter Dylan, with whom he shares with House of Cards actress Robin Wright, co-hosted the event along with fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie, Soleil Moon Frye, designer Francisco Costa, and many more.
Held at Soho Beach House in the midst of Art Basel Miami, the event included a live art auction in collaboration with Christie’s auction house, benefitting CORE’s essential COVID-19 relief programs internationally. Featuring an iconic Andy Warhol piece, a commissioned chocolate work by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, and a “Tomorrow Land” mixed media sculpture by Studio Proba x Enjoy the Weather, the auction also included a print by Mauro Restiffe and an exclusive Carnaval experience in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian performer Anitta.
The NFT platform for social good Metagood transformed a selfie taken by fine art photographer Reka Nyari and converted it into a priceless NFT, raising $200,000 by itself. Altogether, the fundraiser accumulated a whopping $1.6 million for CORE’s crucial frontline COVID-19 aid. Focusing on the most vulnerable communities with the least amount of resources, CORE is responsible for having provided approximately 3 million vaccinations and about 6 million tests worldwide to date.
Emceed by comedian Luenell, the evening included a DJ set by Mia Moretti, and a musical performance by Anitta. From the Arnault family, to Serena Williams and Marc Anthony, the night hosted a multitude of notable guests. Sponsored by American Airlines, artist Mr. Kaves and skincare guru Peter Thomas Roth were also in attendance along with actress Patricia Velasquez and Latin Grammy winners Youtel Romeo and Beatriz Luengo.
