Sarah Jessica Parker has taken to social media to wish her husband, Matthew Broderick, a happy 59th birthday. On Instagram she published a blurry image of a cake which was captioned with, “We love you and we are oh so happy, grateful you were born. XXX, your SJ and 3 besotted young Broderick’s.”

She also shared an earlier Instagram story, writing, “We love you so,” accompanied by a purple hand-drawn heart.

The Sex And the City star married Broderick on May 19, 1997, this year marking their 24th anniversary. Parker, 56, and Broderick, 59, met on Broadway when they worked together on the show, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. According to The New York Timesthe couple started dating after Broderick left a message on her answering machine (how very nineties!).

“…he left a very charming, very self-effacing message on the machine. You know, ‘Hi, it’s Matthew Broderick.’ You had to use your last name,” Parker told the publication.

“I had to give her my credits,” Broderick replied.

The couple share three children together, James, Marion, and Tabitha Broderick.

On October 29, 2020, Parker shared a series of throwback images of her eldest, James, for his 18th birthday.

Twenty-four years of marriage in Hollywood is nearly unheard of. According to Parker, the secret to a successful relationship in showbiz is privacy.

In 2013, Parker told Harper’s Bazaar, “Matthew and I come from a different time and place. When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she told the magazine. “We didn’t think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theatre, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity.”

“We’ve grown,” she told Us Weekly in 2019. “We have a family, we have children, we have friends that have passed away, we have relationships … We don’t talk about it — that’s how it stays strong!”

Mr. Big, eat your heart out.
