My first recollection of Saoirse Ronan on the big-screen was her chilling appearance in The Lovely Bones. The 2009 thriller which follows a murdered fourteen-year-old girl as she tends to unfinished business with her killer, albeit a box-office slump, did in turn launch the career of the young actress. The then-15-year-old won Best Young Performer at the Critics Choice Awards in 2010 and ten years on, it is no surprise as to her ongoing success. Following the recent release of Little Women – a modern day film adaption of a beloved classic novel from Greta Gerwig – Ronan has seen a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at the 2020 Golden Globes.

When it came to her anticipated arrival on the red carpet, her choice of gown was not what we’d normally expect. In recent events, the glowing star has opted for high necks and traditional silhouettes, but as the 25-year-old looks to nab Best Performance, her gown appeared to be a subtle nod to the prized trophy and a departure from past looks. Shimmering in a glitzy Celine number, the dress was commissioned to Hedi Slimane’s atelier and pays homage to the barely-there trend of the 70s, the unique color palette designed to complement Ronan’s exquisite skin tone.

Marking the first ceremony on the awards season trail, the Golden Globes is often an accurate prediction of the nominees and winners of the forthcoming Academy Awards. Since her first appearance in the 2007 film Atonement, the young actress has seen over 200 awards nominations, three of them, Oscars. Will this finally be the year Saoirse Ronan will hold a golden statue?

Watch the 2020 edition of the Golden Globes ceremony from 12 noon on January 6 on Foxtel’s Arena channel. Grazia.com.au will have rolling coverage of the red carpet, ceremony and after parties.
